Colleges, Churches, and Porn

with 2 comments

I recently attended a small afternoon seminar on Christians and pornography hosted by SMBC. It was a great afternoon of encouragement and interaction on a topic not often brought to light. SMBC will be taking measures to install accountability software at server level on the campus internet next year. This morning I read that John Woodhouse, principal of Moore Theological College in Newtown, has encouraged every member of the College community to install “Covenant Eyes” accountability software.

I hope to see more Sydney churches are addressing this issue, internet pornography is an problem that affects so many men, women, and marriages. We seem to have no problem when it comes to other sexual perversions, such as homosexuality, but when it is something that is no longer out there, but in our hearts, the issue seems to get quietly swept under the carpet.

Imagine if 99% of men in Sydney churches were struggling with kleptomania?

Here are some more links if you want some good software, or support, without doing the dreaded Google search.

  1. Internet pornography is the great secret sin of today’s culture that we don’t like to talk about, especially in churches or in our homes. Yet, it is single handedly corrupting society- destroying marriages, families, careers. Church leaders need to address this issue Biblically with their congregations so families can understand this danger and take action. Church leaders need to set the example by using Accountability software to protect their integrity and the stability of the church. I use Covenant Eyes software, http://www.covenanteyes.com, and find it very effective. The program tracks where I go on the Internet, scores each site for questionable content, and emails a report to Accountability partner(s) that you choose when you enroll. It does not block you from visiting websites, but causes you to think about what you are doing. I encourage churches, colleges and families everywhere to safeguard their Internet use. Get free and Stay free from Internet temptation.
